We are excited to announce that Coach Abel will be heading up the Wahoo this season! Abel recently served as the Assistant Coach for the Druid Hills Golf Club Dolphin Swim Team and the Galloway School, and is currently coaching for the Metro Atlanta Aquatic Club (MAAC). Outside of the pool, Abel is a skilled photographer and videographer who manages social media, tinkers with engineering and car projects, and loves exploring the culinary world. Please join us in welcoming Abel to the team!
We are sad to share that this will be Coach Drew's last season with the Wahoo. He is getting married in May and moving to D.C. over the summer where his wife will be doing a medical school fellowship. Coach Drew started swimming at the age of 4 and grew up swimming in the Montgomery County Swim League in Maryland. He excelled in the backstroke events and swam at the University of Maryland. He has coached summer league in Maryland for 13 years, has coached club swimming for over 7 years, and has coached at the high school level for 5 years. Drew is also a math teacher. He previously taught middle school in Maryland, but is now teaching high school algebra at Riverwood International Charter High School in Sandy Springs. Drew brings a lot of experience and passion to the Lake Claire Wahoo and wants this season to be full of fun!
Coach Wyatt first started swimming back in 2008, during the Lake Claire Wahoo’s inaugural swim season, at the age of 5. For the next decade and a half, he was involved in Wahoo in some way, shape or form each year, whether it be swimming, coaching or a combination there of. In 2023, Wyatt moved to New Orleans as a Teach for Americorps member, where he taught high school english and history for 2 years. Upon the completion of his service, he returned to Atlanta. Wyatt is currently enrolled in graduate school at Georgia State University and is very eager to return coaching for the Wahoo. In addition to coaching for Wahoo, Wyatt has coached for Howard Middle School, Dekalb Aquatics and the Inman Park Beluga Whales. His favorite part of coaching is seeing swimmers improve their technique and stroke over time, and the sense of pride that brings them (along with leading the cheer before each meet!).
