2026 Junior Wahoo Program

The Junior Wahoo Program is a selective developmental program for emerging swimmers age 3-6 WHO ARE POOL MEMBERS. Your young swimmer will work with Wahoo coaches to refine his or her stroke and improve endurance, with the goal of swimming a full lap and competing for the Wahoo.

The Junior Wahoo Program will run May 30th - June 20th. Due to the limited enrollment and short program duration, please ensure that your child meets the minimum skills outlined below BEFORE registering your child.

If you have a 6-year-old swimmer who is new to the Wahoo and debating the Junior Program vs. the Big Wahoo Team, please note that we offer an "emerging swimmer" practice group within the Big Wahoo Team that runs at a slower pace and provides extensive coaching support. The "emerging swimmer" practice group is for our youngest swimmers who meet all the Junior Wahoo Minimum Skills, but cannot quite yet complete a full lap unassisted (but they are close). The goal of this practice group is to develop their skills and confidence to complete a lap by the end of the season, with the option of also being able to compete in meets.

Junior Wahoo Minimum Skills: Juniors should be able to put their faces in the water, float on their backs, and be able to propel themselves across the fifteen foot instruction area. If your swimmer has not quite mastered these skills, we strongly recommend private lessons instead of the Junior Wahoo Program. Your child should be eager to swim and not have extreme trepidation about joining the Junior Wahoo group.

As Jr. Wahoo swimmers' skills increase, they can advance to the “Big Team” during the season. Juniors who become able to swim the length of the pool unassisted will have the option of joining the Wahoo 6 and Unders in Wahoo meets.

2026 Junior Wahoo Practice Schedule

Below is the tentative practice schedule for May / June. Note that sometimes we have to cancel practice due to inclement weather and pool maintenance closures. While this is life on a swim team, when possible, we will try to reschedule Jr practice days as we know they are limited.

Practice Runs 7:30 - 8:20 a.m.

• Saturday, May 9 @ 7:30am – Junior Wahoo Meet-Up (Weather Dependent)
Come test the waters! Your swimmer can meet the coaches, make new friends, and get comfortable in the pool—we’ll definitely be getting in the water. If you think your swimmer might be ready to swim up to the “Big” team, we’ll also offer evaluations during this time (just opt in on the form above).

• Saturday, May 30 @ 7:30 am – First Practice

Juniors will be assigned to Group A or B and then sorted by ability and comfort level in the water within their time slot. Please check in with Coach Abel at the end of this session to find out where your swimmer has been placed.
